Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Quantinuum, a leading company in the quantum computing industry, to pursue a strategic development partnership aimed at the industrial application of quantum computing technology. This MOU serves as the foundation for a formal strategic development partnership agreement, establishing a framework for both companies to jointly examine new application possibilities for quantum computing technology in a wide range of simulation and design fields, including CAE and its subset, CFD. In recent years, quantum computing has entered a transition period from the research stage to practical application. Efforts by companies to develop use cases and standardize technologies are accelerating, and expectations for practical application are rising in various fields beyond engineering, such as healthcare, drug discovery, finance, logistics, and energy. Under these circumstances, advancing the verification and introduction of quantum technology at an early stage is becoming increasingly important for establishing long-term competitive advantages and creating new business value. In this development partnership, Mitsubishi Electric will provide use cases, technical requirements, and simulation expertise in industrial fields such as electromagnetic field analysis, structural analysis, and thermal fluid simulation. Quantinuum will provide access to its high-precision ion-trap quantum computing platform and support for quantum algorithm development. By combining their strengths, the two companies plan to proceed with studies for future practical application, including identifying relevant industrial use cases, evaluating technical feasibility, verifying the effectiveness of quantum and hybrid quantum-classical approaches, and testing methods for logical quantum information processing to protect fragile quantum information. Through this partnership, Mitsubishi Electric and Quantinuum aim not only to solve scientific challenges but also to create new market opportunities and contribute to promoting technological innovation and creating new value for society as a whole.
