Mavericks Inc. (headquartered in Bunkyo City, Tokyo; CEO: Shotaro Okuno), provider of the AI video generation tool 'NoLang,' has launched a new preview playback feature within the NoLang editor. For the first time, users can now play back videos directly on the preview screen, with narration, background music (BGM), and sound effects synchronized to the visuals—enabling immediate review of edits without waiting for full video regeneration. Playback speed can be adjusted across five levels: 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x, and 3x. The pitch-preserving fast playback allows even long-form videos to be reviewed quickly.
The Persistent Challenge of 'Delayed Edits' in Video Editing Workflows
In video production environments, the inability to instantly review edits often leads to workflow bottlenecks. According to a joint survey by Hikaku Biz and Mteam (conducted April 7–14, 2025, targeting 111 marketing, PR, and brand strategy professionals), among respondents using both in-house and outsourced production, 25.8% reported that requesting revisions from external vendors takes too long. On the in-house side, 31.6% cited insufficient staff resources and lack of time for video production (※1). In many cases, the time spent on review and revision cycles exceeds the actual editing time.
Audio elements such as narration, BGM, and sound effects are particularly difficult to evaluate based solely on text or parameter changes. Even when read-aloud speed is numerically set, unnatural pauses or breath points cannot be detected until the audio is actually heard. Similarly, BGM volume balance cannot be judged merely by waveform visuals. Only by playing the audio within the full video context—checking timing, pacing, and synchronization with visuals—can editors determine whether adjustments are needed.
Previously, NoLang’s editing interface did not allow video playback on the preview screen. To review overall continuity after adjusting narration or BGM, users had to regenerate the entire video each time. Even a simple caption text change, which takes seconds to edit, required waiting for video regeneration—adding minutes of delay for minor phrasing adjustments. For a 5-minute video requiring three edits, this regeneration wait would accumulate three times, making review wait times comparable to actual editing time. To address this issue, Mavericks has now introduced the preview playback feature to the NoLang editor.
Real-Time Video Playback Now Available in the Editor Preview
NoLang now enables direct playback of in-progress videos on the preview screen within the editing interface. Users can now play back and verify timeline edits instantly, without leaving the editor. In addition to standard play/pause buttons, a new '+2s' button allows skipping forward by two seconds—ideal for quickly reviewing subtitle transitions or brief scene cuts.
During playback, audio tracks including narration, BGM, and sound effects are synchronized with the video. Immediately after typing text to generate narration or adjusting BGM volume or sound effect timing, users can replay the segment to confirm the result on the spot. A new playback speed toggle button has been added to the bottom of the preview screen. A tooltip labeled 'Playback Speed' displays the currently selected speed (e.g., 'x1'). Clicking the button opens a menu listing options like 'x1' and 'x1.25'. While adjusting speed, the button color changes, making it visually clear when playback is not at 1x speed.
Five Playback Speeds from 1x to 3x with Pitch-Preserved Fast Playback
Users can select from five playback speeds: 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x, and 3x.
Even at higher speeds, the pitch of narration and sound effects remains preserved. Simple fast-forwarding often results in high-pitched, unnatural voices, but NoLang applies pitch-preserving processing so that only the speed changes while maintaining natural audio quality. This enables users to clearly understand dialogue even at 3x speed. However, some browsers do not support pitch-preserving speed adjustment. In such cases, a notification appears on the preview screen: 'Your browser does not support pitch-preserving speed changes during preview playback,' and the audio will play at original speed or without pitch preservation.
These speed options further enhance the efficiency of the 'immediate on-the-spot review' experience. According to a survey by NTT Docomo Mobile Society Research Institute (published September 2024), over half of respondents reported using accelerated video playback (※2). A survey by Sompo Japan's 'Z Generation Video Research Lab' (conducted September 2022, 800 participants aged 18–57) found that Z Generation users prefer 1.5x speed, while other generations favor 1.25x (※3). NoLang’s 1.25x and 1.5x options align with viewer preferences for reviewing output, while 2x and 3x are optimized for production-side efficiency.
Use 1x for Immediate Edits, 2x–3x for Rapid Full Review
The combination of preview playback and variable speed offers two key use cases. First, immediate verification right after editing. After generating narration or adjusting BGM volume, users can play back at 1x speed to audibly confirm timing and volume balance. If issues are found, they can immediately revise text or settings and replay—completing the entire cycle within the editor. The '+2s' button allows jumping slightly ahead of the edited section to quickly verify transitions.
Second, using fast playback to review long videos efficiently. For lengthy content like training or seminar videos, watching the entire video at 1x speed takes considerable time. With 2x or 3x playback, users can first quickly scan for pacing or structural issues, then return to 1x speed only for sections needing detailed audio or subtitle refinement. A 10-minute video can be reviewed in just over 3 minutes at 3x speed, followed by reviewing only a few tens of seconds at normal speed.
The core of this update is that both 'immediate on-the-spot review' and 'rapid full review' now happen within the same preview screen—without requiring video regeneration. This workflow is equally effective during final pre-release checks: use 3x speed to scan for major issues across the entire video, then revert to 1x speed only for fine-tuning caption line breaks or sound effect timing.
Future Outlook
Mavericks will continue to enhance not only video generation but also post-generation review and finishing workflows, enabling users to quickly achieve their intended video output through intuitive editing.
