The national average hourly wage for April 2026 was 1,301 yen (up 5 yen from the previous month, up 5 yen from the same month last year), marking the first increase in six months. By job category, 'Leisure & Amusement' reached 1,280 yen and 'Sales, Customer Service & Service' reached 1,238 yen, both hitting record highs.

By area, 'Chugoku/Shikoku' saw the largest increase, with an average hourly wage of 1,218 yen, up 31 yen from the same month last year.
