The national average hourly wage for April 2026 was 1,301 yen (up 5 yen from the previous month, up 5 yen from the same month last year), marking the first increase in six months. By job category, 'Leisure & Amusement' reached 1,280 yen and 'Sales, Customer Service & Service' reached 1,238 yen, both hitting record highs.

By area, 'Chugoku/Shikoku' saw the largest increase, with an average hourly wage of 1,218 yen, up 31 yen from the same month last year. The average hourly wage in the three major metropolitan areas remained flat at 1,334 yen. The impact of the spring labor offensive on wage hikes is currently viewed as limited.
