The Japan Committee for IUCN (IUCN-J), with the support of the Nature Positive Initiative, ICLEI Japan, and the Ministry of the Environment, will host the 2nd Global Nature Positive Summit in Kumamoto City from July 14 to 15, 2026. The programs for the excursion to be held on July 16, the day after the summit, have been announced.
This summit focuses on accelerating the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) agreed upon in 2022. The second summit will highlight initiatives by businesses, finance, and local governments to share them globally.
The excursion provides four courses to deepen understanding within Kumamoto’s nature and culture, sponsored by organizations including The Norinchukin Bank, Aso Green Stock, The Higo Bank, MS&AD Insurance Group, and AEON.
1. Satoyama Experience Tour in Kikuchi River Basin (Sponsored by The Norinchukin Bank): Field experience at forestry worksites. 2. Journey to the Sanctuary of Aso Grasslands (Sponsored by Aso Green Stock): Grass-cutting and controlled burning experiences in restricted areas. 3. AEON Forest Creation & Ezu-ko Lake Tour (Sponsored by AEON): Miyawaki-method tree planting and touring the spring-fed lake. 4. Living in Harmony with Nature - Kuma River Tour (Sponsored by The Higo Bank & MS&AD): Understanding nature and risks through wetland conservation and the history of flooding.
