Nakajima Art in Ginza, a gallery specializing primarily in Japanese painting, is bringing its 30th-anniversary celebrations to a close by hosting a solo exhibition by Japanese painter Kimio Muraoka. This marks his first exhibition of entirely new works in seven years, and his ninth solo exhibition at Nakajima Art.

The title of this exhibition is "Kioku-on" (Memory Sound). Always viewing his presentations at Nakajima Art as a venue for new challenges, Muraoka has expanded his artistic world beyond two-dimensional expression by incorporating diverse materials and techniques, all while keeping Japanese painting as his foundation. For this exhibition, Muraoka has chosen "sound" and "memory" as his themes. Through the meticulous brushwork characteristic of Japanese painting, he captures on canvas the existence of sounds that fade away over time and the ever-transforming nature of memories, exuding a tension and anxiety that lurk beneath the tranquility. The major highlights of this exhibition include the collection of works created through his exceptional technique and imagination that transcend the boundaries of Japanese painting, the delicate mechanisms of quietly playing sounds incorporated within them, and the spatial composition of the exhibition designed by the artist himself, which goes beyond mere display of artworks. Please be sure not to miss it.
