In front of the 3rd-floor escalator at Shin-Shizuoka Senova
Nakazawa Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Konan City, Shiga Prefecture; President & CEO: Mitsutoshi Nakazawa), which operates over 70 watch and eyewear specialty stores domestically and internationally, will install its fully automated cotton candy vending machine 'CANDY SPIN' at Shin-Shizuoka Senova (Aoi Ward, Shizuoka City) on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
This installation marks the 29th location nationwide.
At its previous installation at AEON Mall Niigata Kameda Inter in winter 2025, CANDY SPIN sold up to 176 units per day, with lines of over 30 people during peak times, becoming a popular experiential vending machine initiated by a watch retailer.
The timing aligns with the start of summer vacation, targeting the busy season for family visitors.
What is CANDY SPIN?
Parents and children watching the production process. The excitement of waiting for completion is part of the charm.
CANDY SPIN is a vending machine that fully automatically creates designer cotton candy. The center of the machine is made of glass, allowing customers to watch the cotton candy spin and grow—almost like magic. For about two minutes, the candy expands before the eyes of both children and adults, captivating everyone. The finished product is larger than an adult's face.
Operation is simple: just select your design and flavor via touchscreen. Supervised by a popular cotton candy shop from Harajuku, customers can choose from 24 designs—including hearts, flowers, and bears—and 4 flavors: strawberry, soda, lemon, and plain. While festival stalls often sell bagged cotton candy for around 1,000 yen, CANDY SPIN offers freshly made designer cotton candy for just 500 yen (tax included), making it an easy treat during shopping.
Why Would a Watch Store Sell Cotton Candy?
With over 70 years in business, Nakazawa has grown alongside commercial facilities across Japan, operating watch and eyewear specialty stores. As e-commerce reshapes how malls attract visitors, tenant businesses like Nakazawa are rethinking how they can contribute to a facility’s vibrancy. One answer: transforming vacant spaces into 'experience zones' with CANDY SPIN.
Children smiling as they receive their cotton candy. The large, photogenic designs are also popular on social media.
For CANDY SPIN, the product is not just the cotton candy—it’s the approximately two minutes during which the candy forms right before your eyes. Operating unmanned, it recreates the festive excitement of a summer festival stall and offers a new solution for underutilized spaces in malls facing staffing shortages.
A popular flower-themed design. Customers can choose from 24 different shapes.
Internally, many initially reacted with surprise: 'A watch store selling cotton candy?'
But after installation, the natural emergence of children’s joyful faces and families watching together became evident. Perhaps what we truly wanted to deliver wasn’t cotton candy—but that shared moment of joy.
