Narita International Airport Corporation announced on June 10th its membership in 'BOOST', an international innovation alliance in the field of passenger baggage handling, which includes major European and Asian airports such as Amsterdam Schiphol and Seoul Incheon.
BOOST is an international initiative led by airports to aim for the automation and efficiency improvement of baggage handling, promoting demonstration and development. By having member airports share roles and results from their respective demonstrations, it accelerates the resolution of challenges that were difficult to address individually. NAA is advancing demonstrations to identify owners of checked baggage using AI image analysis technology and will work towards its implementation through this alliance.
※BOOST is an innovation program in the baggage handling field launched in June 2024 in collaboration with Schiphol Airport, Incheon Airport, and Avinor AS (Norway). It aims to reduce the physical burden on baggage handlers and improve operational efficiency by utilizing robotics and automation technologies, thereby co-creating the future of baggage handling.
Subsequently, Brussels Airport and Heathrow Airport joined, and with Narita Airport's recent accession, it becomes the sixth airport company to join. BOOST will work in collaboration with relevant airlines, suppliers, and handling companies.
