Cai Yuqing, Chairman of Huatec Energy (2237-TW), an electric bus manufacturer invested by King Long Electric (1533-TW), stated on the 9th that the company remains bullish on the long-term trend of electric buses. In addition to the domestic Taiwan market, Huatec is actively expanding overseas, leveraging its integrated architecture from tri-power systems to operational platforms as a key differentiator. The company's market share in Japan continues to grow, with a target of reaching 32% by 2030, and plans to begin expanding into the North American market.
Huatec Energy's core capabilities span vehicle structure, electronic and electrical systems, vehicle control software, and testing and validation. These extend to VCU, BMS, liquid-cooled battery packs, dual-gun fast charging systems, onboard HMI, cloud-based fleet management, and Level 2 autonomous driving systems, forming an integrated architecture from tri-power systems to operational platforms.
Chairman Cai emphasized that the company's footprint has expanded beyond Taiwan to Japan, Vietnam, the United States, and Mexico, establishing cooperation networks with Optimal (USA), Sumitomo Corporation Group (Japan), NExT-eSolutions (Japan), and Mexican automakers.
Notably, Huatec began exporting urban electric bus solutions to Kyushu, Japan, in 2022, entered Tokyo in 2024, and plans to expand to Kobe and Okayama by 2027. The company is optimistic about achieving a 32% market share in Japan by 2030.
Cai stressed that customers visiting the factory have expressed surprise, saying Huatec's vehicle electronics integration and complete vehicle manufacturing are 'exactly what they were looking for,' enabling rapid visibility in the Japanese market. This demonstrates that the company's capabilities in ICT integration, energy management, and remote monitoring are gradually gaining recognition in overseas markets.
According to Marketsand Markets, the global electric bus market is projected to grow from $23.8 billion in 2025 to $59.6 billion by 2032, representing a CAGR of 14%. Domestically, Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation's '2030 Public Transport Electrification Promotion Plan' has a total budget of NT$64.327 billion, aiming for full electrification of urban buses by 2030.
Huatec Energy estimates that under this policy, there will be a demand to replace at least 1,400 electric buses annually over the next five years. 'We gain new customers almost every year.' While continuing to align with domestic industry development, the company is also striving to strengthen its overseas expansion through ecosystem integration.
