According to Kyiv city police on the evening of April 19 (Sunday), Russia launched a large-scale ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital from the night of April 18 into the early hours of April 19. This is the largest ballistic missile assault on Kyiv since the escalation of the Ukraine crisis.
As of late evening on April 19, the attack has resulted in one death and 17 injuries in the city. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated that this attack on the capital Kyiv is one of the largest ballistic missile attacks since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
According to Ukrainian TCH television, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces launched a total of 41 missiles and 125 attack drones toward Kyiv. The arsenal included 10 'Zircon' hypersonic missiles, 25 'Iskander-M' missiles, and S-400 missiles.
Ukrainian sources indicate that approximately 40 of these missiles were launched within a 40-minute window.
As of late night on April 19, Ukraine's State Emergency Service, Kyiv police, and volunteer rescue organizations continue relief operations. Local residents are registering casualties and property damage with police assistance.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced on April 19 that in the early hours of the day, Russian Armed Forces conducted a large-scale strike using air- and ground-launched precision weapons and attack drones against military-industrial enterprises and logistics centers in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast, as well as infrastructure targets at the Southern Port in Odesa Oblast.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated these targets were used for receiving and storing military cargo and ensuring fuel and lubricant supplies for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
