Botai Biotech (7850-TW) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with U.S. biotech company Coastar Therapeutics and Pioneer Biomed to jointly develop in vivo CAR-T (in vivo CAR-T) gene therapy for dogs. Botai Biotech stated that this collaboration not only focuses on pet oncology treatment but also leverages the high carrier flexibility of the EDM (erythrocyte membrane carrier) platform to expand into multiple therapeutic areas, including autoimmune diseases, genetic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases, aiming to capture high-value segments of the pet healthcare market.
Botai emphasized that the three parties will deeply integrate their respective strengths in pet pharmaceuticals, cell therapy systems, and innovative delivery technologies. The collaboration will combine Pioneer Biomed’s non-viral vector platform technology, Coastar’s EDM gene delivery technology, and Botai’s expertise in pet drug development, veterinary clinical development, and market expansion across the Asia-Pacific region to jointly explore the feasibility of in vivo CAR-T therapy for dogs.
Looking ahead, the three partners plan to advance the clinical deployment of this technology in the Asia-Pacific region and globally through a multi-indication development strategy, targeting high-value markets in pet oncology, immunology, and genetic diseases.
