According to Bloomberg, citing sources, Zhipu (02513-HK) has recently completed a large data center with a design power capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW), entirely powered by domestically produced Chinese chips. This ensures a stable supply of computing resources required for large-scale model training, contributing to Zhipu's stock surging nearly 30% during trading on Tuesday (21st).
At the same time, Zhipu AI has officially completed its acquisition of XCore Sigma, a domestic AI heterogeneous computing software company. The XCore Sigma team originates from the Compiler Laboratory at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and has long specialized in heterogeneous computing software stacks and compiler optimization. It is regarded as one of China’s top-tier AI infrastructure (AI Infra) teams.
Analysts believe the acquisition aims to address the critical challenge of 'computational power utilization'—by leveraging foundational software capabilities such as compilers, runtime systems, and inference engines, the efficiency of heterogeneous chips can be significantly improved, reducing inference costs and enhancing model deployment efficiency.
With the establishment of large-scale computing power and a mature infrastructure system, market expectations for Zhipu’s next-generation foundational models have risen sharply. Backed by strong post-training capabilities, the new models are expected to evolve toward larger parameter scales and higher intelligence levels, while maintaining inference efficiency and engineering deployability.
Industry experts point out that competition among leading global AI companies has evolved from isolated model capabilities to a systemic race encompassing models, computing power, infrastructure, and industrial ecosystems. Zhipu AI’s recent series of moves indicate a strategic effort to build a comprehensive competitive framework as a foundational model company, rather than competing solely around individual model releases. This strategic positioning has driven a significant rise in Zhipu’s stock price during trading on Tuesday (21st).
