Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a phone call on the 26th (Sunday) with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss the attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea and exchange views on regional developments.
According to a statement released by Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Araghchi stated that Ukraine's attack on the Iranian cargo ship constitutes a dangerous act of provocation and a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.
He emphasized that Iran will resolutely safeguard its security and national interests.
Lavrov condemned the attack on the Iranian cargo vessel, stating that the incident violates international law and poses a threat to trade shipping routes between Iran and Russia. He stressed that Ukraine must be held accountable for launching the attack and endangering commercial navigation in the Caspian Sea.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian forces successfully carried out a strike in the Caspian Sea, targeting 'Iran-linked vessels used to transport military cargo,' and emphasized that the action aims to sever the military supply chain between Russia and Iran.
Zelenskyy accused Russia of using satellite surveillance since early July to monitor U.S. military facilities in the Gulf region and sharing intelligence on four U.S. air bases in Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait with Iran, assisting Tehran in conducting missile strikes.
