Taiwan's stock market has recently experienced a correction and increased volatility, raising market uncertainty. However, the number of ETF shareholders has逆势 surged, showing that investors are turning to diversified portfolios to manage risk and position for rebounds. According to CMoney statistics, as of July 24, the top 10 most popular ETFs all saw monthly shareholder growth exceeding 39%. The Capital Taiwan Weighted 2x Leverage ETF (00685L-TW) surged over 363% to lead the pack. Market-cap and overseas tech-linked ETFs, such as Yuanta MSCI Taiwan and Capital U.S. Tech Giants, also demonstrated strong capital attraction, while high-dividend ETFs continued to serve as safe havens, drawing defensive capital.

Looking back at recent market trends, rising geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East pushed Brent crude oil prices above $100 per barrel, reigniting market concerns over inflation and interest rate hikes. In the U.S., although Google's earnings were strong, worries about expanding capital expenditures turning cash flow negative led the S&P 500 to fall 0.61% last week and the Nasdaq to drop 2.13%. However, hardware stocks stabilized, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rising 1.24%, lifting Asian markets in tandem. The Taiwan Weighted Index rose 2.3% last week, setting a record for the largest single-day gain. Yet, over the past month, Taiwan stocks have still fallen 5.62%, indicating short-term volatility persists. Amid this turbulence, investors are actively seeking capital outlets.

From the top 10 popular ETFs, three major capital flow trends emerge. First, the Capital Taiwan Weighted 2x Leverage ETF (00685L-TW), despite a sharp one-month performance decline of 96.41%, saw its shareholder count surge over 3.6 times. This reflects some investors anticipating a rebound after the sharp drop in Taiwan stocks, using leveraged ETFs to bet on a recovery.

Second, market-cap and overseas tech ETFs continue to attract capital. Yuanta MSCI Taiwan (006203-TW) fell 5.86% over the month, in line with the broader market, but its shareholder count jumped 142.28%, indicating investors are using large-cap ETFs to gradually accumulate on the market's correction. Overseas, Capital U.S. Tech Giants (009824) fell only 1.38%, with shareholder numbers up 89.91%. Capital S&P500 (009823) rose 1.28%, with shareholder growth of 77.74%, reflecting strong demand for allocations to U.S. mega-cap tech and mature markets.

Third, high-dividend ETFs have become safe havens in volatile markets. FT Taiwan Sustainable High Dividend (00961-TW) fell just 0.08% over the month, with shareholder numbers up 53.55%, showing these ETFs are favored for their income and diversification benefits amid rising uncertainty. Capital Semiconductor Income (00927-TW), despite a 15.25% monthly drop, still saw a 46.68% increase in shareholders. CITIC OTC ESG30 (00928-TW) also posted a 39.45% monthly increase, highlighting a dual focus on defense and income.

Looking ahead, this week's FOMC rate decision will influence global capital flows. Institutions advise that amid heightened market volatility, investors should moderately reduce portfolio leverage, increase cash holdings to strictly control downside risk, and, for those seeking to buy the dip, use diversified instruments like funds or ETFs to avoid unsystematic risks from individual stocks and maintain flexibility.
