TSMC (2330-TW)(TSM-US) updated the status of its Kumamoto-based JASM facility this evening. The company stated that all personnel on site have been confirmed safe, and post-earthquake structural inspections of the JASM facility have been completed with no damage found, allowing for a gradual return to production lines.
Japan's Kumamoto region experienced a magnitude 7 earthquake at approximately 4:00 PM local time today, followed by multiple significant aftershocks. The JASM wafer fabrication plant operated by TSMC in Kumamoto recorded a maximum seismic intensity of 5.
To ensure personnel safety, JASM activated internal safety protocols, immediately evacuating staff. All personnel on site have now been confirmed safe, and structural damage assessments have been completed with no safety concerns identified, enabling a phased return to production. Detailed inspections and comprehensive impact assessments are ongoing.
Meanwhile, construction at the JASM plant site remains unaffected, but due to the possibility of further sporadic aftershocks, certain construction activities have been temporarily suspended for safety reasons.
