The US Federal Reserve (Fed) will announce its interest rate decision this Wednesday. Market predictions suggest a 40% chance of a rate hike this week, with overall uncertainty extremely high, causing some capital to withdraw from high-risk assets. Semiconductor-related stocks, such as silicon wafers, memory, testing interfaces, and power components, have taken a heavy blow. Companies like GlobalWafers, Heraeus, Nan Ya Technology, Wistron, ChipMOS, and Yanzhi Technology have all hit limit down. As expectations of a Fed rate hike loom over the market, Taiwan's stock market today once again fell by more than 2,000 points, breaking previous lows and reaching a two-month low. A total of 1,757 listed companies fell, with nearly a thousand of them dropping by more than 3%. Only 92 companies rose, highlighting the heavy selling pressure in the market. In addition to Taiwan's stock market, the highly leveraged Korean stock market has once again triggered a circuit breaker, becoming the 8th time this year. It experienced a single-day plunge of more than 10%, equivalent to a correction of more than 35% from its high. The Japanese stock market also faced resistance from moving averages, dropping nearly 5% and testing the half-year line support. Semiconductor-related stocks have recently become a cash machine for the market. Led by TSMC, foreign investors have sold more than 800,000 shares of TSMC this year, withdrawing approximately 1.6 trillion yuan. Today, TSMC continued to fall by nearly 3%, reaching a low of 2,270 yuan, with a market value of only 59 trillion yuan. Popular semiconductor-related stocks also could not escape the air raid. Silicon wafer companies like GlobalWafers (6488-TW), Heraeus (6182-TW), and Taisan Technology (3532-TW) all hit limit down. Memory stocks, despite a late rally yesterday, including Nan Ya Technology (2408-TW), Wistron (2344-TW), Epistar (6531-TW), Powerchip Semiconductor (2337-TW), Innolux (5351-TW), Crystalwise Technology (3006-TW), Nan Ya Plastics (8150-TW), ChipMOS (8299-TW), and Arima (8096-TW), all turned green today.
