U.S. semiconductor design giant Marvell Technology (MRVL-US) announced on Wednesday (29th) that it will invest $250 million in India over the next three years. The investment will expand local technical research and development, talent acquisition, and infrastructure, further enhancing its semiconductor development capabilities for artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and data infrastructure. The company also plans to double its employee count in India.
As AI drives rapid global growth in chip demand, India—with its vast engineering talent pool and strong government support—is becoming a key hub for international semiconductor firms expanding their R&D operations. Marvell is joining the global wave of chipmakers entering India, aiming to scale up its local operations to meet the rising demand for high-performance chips in next-generation data centers and AI infrastructure.
Marvell has operated in India since 2006, currently maintaining offices in Bangalore, Pune, and Hyderabad. Under this investment plan, the company will add new office space in its Bangalore facility and expand its Hyderabad site, though it did not disclose its current total employee count in India or the timeline for expansion.
Marvell stated that expanding its Indian operations will help develop advanced semiconductor solutions for AI, cloud computing, and data infrastructure. The company primarily designs chips for data centers, networking, and storage, positioning it as a key player in the AI computing infrastructure supply chain.
Marvell’s announcement comes as the Indian government accelerates efforts to boost its domestic semiconductor industry. Weeks ago, the Indian cabinet approved an expansion of a major semiconductor initiative, allocating an additional 1.28 trillion rupees (approximately $13.38 billion) to strengthen domestic chip manufacturing, design, and supply chain capabilities, aiming to attract more global semiconductor companies to establish R&D and production facilities in the country.
