Tesla (TSLA-US) officially announced on Thursday, July 30, 2026, that its 10 millionth electric vehicle was produced at the Fremont factory, making Tesla the first company globally to produce 10 million electric vehicles.
According to the Shanghai Securities News, Tesla delivered over 830,000 vehicles globally in the first half of 2026, equivalent to selling one vehicle every 9 seconds based on global store operating hours. In the second quarter, Tesla delivered over 480,000 vehicles, setting a new record for quarterly deliveries.
Tesla representatives noted that the company built its first Roadster prototype in 2006. In July 2026, the 10 millionth all-electric vehicle rolled off the production line—20 years from the first to the 10 millionth vehicle. It took Tesla 12 years to produce its first million vehicles from the first mass-produced model, while the most recent million was achieved in just a few months.
As of the end of the second quarter, Tesla's backlog of undelivered orders reached the highest level since 2023. According to CleanTechnica, from January to May 2026, the Model Y led global new energy vehicle sales with 408,000 units sold, more than double the second-place model. The Model 3 ranked third with 164,000 units.
More than half of Tesla's globally popular orders are fulfilled by the Shanghai Gigafactory. In the first half of 2026, the Shanghai Gigafactory delivered nearly 468,000 vehicles, a 28.4% increase year-on-year.
Since delivering the first China-made Model 3 in December 2019, the Shanghai Gigafactory has produced over 4.5 million electric vehicles in six and a half years, accounting for over 45% of Tesla's global total production. It is Tesla's largest export center.
