Taiwan's stock market has been experiencing volatile trading amid shrinking turnover. According to data from the TWSE and GreTai Securities Market, a total of 26 stocks were placed under trading restrictions on the 30th, including 11 listed and 15 over-the-counter stocks. Two of the restricted stocks, Actol-KY (6907-TW) and Chuang Hong Technology (7714-TW), will be released from restrictions tomorrow (31st), while three new stocks have been added: optical communications firms Global Unichip-KY (4991-TW) and Hwa Shine Light (4979-TW), with the restriction period effective from today through August 14th.

Among the 26 restricted stocks, sectors include semiconductors, electronic components, optoelectronics, biotechnology, and DR. Due to today's sharp decline in Taiwan's market volume—nearly 700 billion NT dollars—passive component stocks have seen the heaviest losses recently. This includes Holtek (3026-TW), Sunlord Electric (6173-TW), Walsin Technology (2492-TW), and Nippon Electric Works (3090-TW). Among them, Holtek, Sunlord Electric, and Nippon Electric Works hit the daily trading limit down today. Although Holtek and Walsin Technology saw increased trading volume, neither reached 10,000 lots, while Sunlord Electric traded fewer than 1,000 lots.

Among the newly restricted stocks, Hwa Shine Light plunged 8%, with current volume at only 1,700 shares—just one-tenth of yesterday's (29th) 17,000 shares. Global Unichip-KY's volume was even lower, under 500 shares, and briefly hit limit-down at opening. Lian You Metal-Chuang (7610-TW), despite being a high-priced stock, also saw volume under 1,000 shares and hit the limit-down board during trading.

Other stocks currently under restriction include合晶 (6182-TW), 中探針 (6217-TW), and 雷虎 (8033-TW). Most are subject to 20-minute segmented trading, while a few—including合晶, Wei Shin Industrial-Chuang, Sunlord Semiconductor, Dian Jing, Asia泰 Metal, Actol-KY, and Chuang Hong Technology—are on 5-minute intervals. Shang Mao is on a 25-minute cycle, and today its stock price not only hit limit-down but also recorded trading volume under 50 lots.

Regulatory authorities impose trading restrictions to curb excessive speculation and maintain market order. Recently, Taiwan's market has seen sharp corrections, with many stocks experiencing low trading volumes but being flagged due to sharp price increases or high trading activity.
