Global electronic components leader Murata Manufacturing announced on Friday (31st) that it has significantly revised upward its financial outlook for the fiscal year ending March 2027, driven by robust demand for multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) from artificial intelligence (AI) servers and supported by the weakening of the Japanese yen.
According to the latest forecast, Murata has raised its full-year consolidated net profit projection to 338 billion yen (approximately 2.1 billion USD), an increase of 45 billion yen, or 44.5%, compared to its previous estimate—potentially setting a new record high. Additionally, sales revenue is expected to reach 2.11 trillion yen, while operating profit has been raised to 430 billion yen, representing an increase of over 50%.
The company's first-quarter financial results for fiscal year 2026 (April to June) also showed strong performance, with quarterly revenue rising 21% year-on-year to 502.2 billion yen and net profit surging 64% to 81.3 billion yen. Revenue from the capacitor division grew by 30%, primarily driven by demand from data centers and automotive electronics markets.
The key driver behind the profit surge is the global construction boom in data centers. Industry analysis indicates that a single AI server requires between 15,000 and 25,000 MLCCs—far exceeding the demand from traditional servers.
Murata stated that the sustained growth in demand related to data centers, combined with foreign exchange gains from the weakening yen, are the primary reasons for the upward revision.
Market observers note that electronic components for AI are entering a structural growth phase. As the world's leading MLCC manufacturer, Murata is now considered the biggest beneficiary of this technological shift. With improved production utilization rates and optimized product mix, the company remains optimistic about its full-year performance.
