China's three major A-share indices opened lower on August 3 (Monday), with both markets exhibiting a weak, narrow-range trading pattern throughout the day, although individual stocks broadly rose.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed down 0.59% at 3,809.66 points; the Shenzhen Component Index fell 0.96% to 13,448.29 points; and the ChiNext Index dropped 1.24% to 3,302.55 points.

Total trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets reached RMB 1.9974 trillion, down RMB 544.6 billion from the previous trading day.

CITIC Securities stated that the current A-share correction is more attributable to a de-risking of crowded trades rather than a Korea-style deleveraging shock. That said, localized liquidity pressures still exist, particularly in certain non-core AI stocks. These adjustments have triggered portfolio rebalancing within the tech sector, temporarily disrupting the pricing of core assets. However, this impact has now largely dissipated.

The probability of a broad market recovery in August continues to rise, though it will not be a simple oversold rebound. Negative narratives surrounding non-AI sectors are showing marginal improvement, and the funding environment supports a moderate recovery.

Galaxy Securities noted that in the short term, the market is likely to be characterized by consolidation and structural rebalancing. As sector crowding eases, domestic policies continue to provide support, and long-term capital keeps flowing in, the downside space for indices has significantly narrowed.

With the onset of August, listed companies are releasing their mid-year earnings reports en masse. Investors should focus on niche sectors with strong earnings visibility and higher certainty of growth. The medium- to long-term trend of technological and growth-oriented industries remains intact. Future market dynamics are expected to shift from broad-based rallies to structural opportunities driven by earnings performance. Market leadership may evolve from a single dominant theme in the first half to multiple concurrent themes in the second half.
