A powerful magnitude 7.1 earthquake recently struck Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, causing casualties and disrupting public transportation. In response, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) announced a donation of 250 million yen (approximately 50 million New Taiwan dollars) to support recovery and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas. Additionally, through the TSMC Charity Foundation, the company has launched an employee fundraising campaign, expressing hope for the region’s swift recovery.
TSMC emphasized its nearly 30-year commitment to the Japanese market, collaborating with Japanese suppliers and partner companies to support customer innovation and contribute to the global semiconductor ecosystem. Kumamoto is one of TSMC’s key global production sites, and the company expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Japanese government, Kumamoto Prefecture, local municipalities, and supply chain partners for their ongoing support.
Regarding the earthquake, TSMC highlighted that thanks to the dedicated efforts of local employees and suppliers, the JASM plant was able to resume normal operations swiftly. The company extended sincere appreciation to all personnel involved in disaster response, recovery, and production continuity.
TSMC noted that affected areas continue to require support. The company will continue to care for employees and their families impacted by the earthquake, closely monitor post-disaster needs and reconstruction progress, and provide necessary resources and assistance. TSMC remains committed to partnering with local communities to advance recovery efforts and support the region’s rebuilding journey.
