Double Bull Isn't for Gambling! Master These 3 Signals to Unlock the Power of 00631L

When people hear 'Double Bull,' many investors immediately think of high risk. But I believe the real issue isn't whether it's dangerous, but whether you know how to use this tool. Take the most representative product in the market, the Yuanta Taiwan 50 2x Bull ETF (00631L), as an example. It tracks the Taiwan 50 Index with the investment goal of achieving twice the index's daily positive return, primarily using futures and other instruments to create leveraged exposure. As of August 4, 2026, its asset size has exceeded NT$250 billion, with over 360,000 beneficiaries, indicating high market participation.

The greatest appeal of Double Bull lies in its ability to deliver superior capital efficiency during clear bullish trends in the Taiwan stock market, especially when TSMC and large-cap stocks lead the rally. Instead of guessing which one stock might rise among thousands, capturing the overall trend can be simpler and more effective. That’s why I always emphasize: when I’m bullish on TSMC, large-cap stocks, and the Taiwan market trend, Double Bull becomes a highly efficient offensive tool.

The true power of Double Bull emerges when leverage combines with compounding over time. Long-term results aren’t simply 'double the market return.' For example, based on back-tested data from my program, from 2023 to 2026, the 0050 ETF delivered a cumulative return of about 78%, while 00631L achieved approximately 165%. Extending the period from 2021 to 2026, 0050 returned about 92%, whereas 00631L reached around 280%. In sustained upward markets, the compounding effect of consecutive gains can amplify cumulative returns beyond mere leverage.

Recent market activity reflects this enthusiasm. When the Taiwan stock market dropped 8.48% over three consecutive days, two of the top three most traded ETFs were Double Bull products, showing many investors now use them strategically during pullbacks. Some investors even report achieving over NT$22 million in paper profits from consistent investment in 00631L over two years. However, this is an individual case and cannot be replicated. It also reminds us: the real driver of success isn’t just 'leverage,' but trend recognition, capital management, and disciplined holding.

Of course, Double Bull isn’t without cost. 00631L targets **double the daily return**, not a guaranteed 2x return over any extended period. In volatile, sideways markets, daily rebalancing can lead to 'volatility decay,' eroding returns. Yuanta Asset Management clearly classifies 00631L as a leveraged strategy product with RR5 risk rating, warning it’s unsuitable for average investors using traditional buy-and-hold approaches.

That’s why I don’t support the idea of 'buy and forget' with Double Bull. During consolidation or bear markets, 2x volatility can rapidly shrink your assets. The psychological pressure during sharp declines far exceeds that of regular ETFs. The investor who made NT$22 million in two years also faced a paper loss of about NT$5 million during the 2025 market correction.

Thus, the biggest risk of Double Bull isn’t the product itself, but investors placing heavy bets at the wrong time without sufficient cash reserves.

My core approach to using Double Bull isn’t 'always bullish,' but waiting for the right moment. When the market undergoes a sharp correction, margin and weak hands are shaken out, the index stops making new lows, volume recovers, foreign investors return, and TSMC and major large-caps lead the rebound—that’s when Double Bull truly shines.

My strategy isn’t to go all-in at once, but to enter gradually by analyzing price, volume, and market leadership, combining phased entry, regular investment, and position adjustment to make leverage work in my favor. Markets always cycle between bull and bear phases. Tools aren’t inherently good or bad—it’s who uses them and when that makes the difference.
