Shin Kong Mitsukoshi officially announced today (11th) that its new Taipei Main Station mall will operate under the development vision of 'Windowto the World,' with an investment exceeding NT$1 billion focused on upgrading four key areas: spatial services, product offerings, cultural programming, and safety management. The dining ratio will be reduced to below 70%, aiming to collaborate with Taiwan Railways to reshape the nation's gateway image and drive economic prosperity in Taipei's West District, ushering in a new phase of development for the station.
Shin Kong Mitsukoshi plans to allocate over NT$1 billion in renovation budget across four development pillars: innovative spatial service design, diversified product category planning, cross-domain cultural exhibitions, and resilient safety management. These initiatives align with Taiwan Railways' eight core themes—iconic renewal, attractive dining, appealing shopping, international friendliness, international tourism, public space, safe environment, and AI intelligence—supporting two major goals: reshaping the national gateway image and integrating with the economic development of the West District.
The company explained that the first-floor station hall will be transformed into a distinctly Taiwanese 'urban living room,' featuring a 600-inch digital welcome wall, a signature time-telling installation, and updated floor design. It will also introduce inclusive, smart, and user-friendly service facilities to enhance the commuting and waiting experience for diverse nationalities and communities.
Simultaneously, the 'Window to the World' concept will foster bidirectional connections between Taiwan and the globe, curating a 'Hall of Fame'-style 'Taiwan Essence' zone showcasing representative local delicacies, souvenirs, and design brands. A 'Gourmet Theme Street' will maximize the diversity of local and international cuisines.
In cross-domain cultural programming, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi will utilize the station’s high-ceilinged atriums and corridor spaces to host rotating exhibitions by artists and cultural groups from diverse fields, including railway heritage, allowing art and culture to flourish throughout the station.
On resilient safety management, the company will implement higher safety standards from construction through operations, minimizing disruptions and risks to travelers and staff.
Shin Kong Mitsukoshi emphasized its commitment to creating a new Taipei Main Station that fills Taiwanese citizens with pride and amazes international visitors—delivering visible, tangible transformation.
