Taiwan's stock market (TAIEX) closed up 503 points at 46,021 today, firmly holding above the 46,000 level and all short-term moving averages. Trading volume also returned to the trillion-dollar threshold, reaching NT$1.05 trillion. All three major institutional investors remained on the buying side, marking their fourth consecutive day of simultaneous net buying. Foreign investors showed strong confidence in active ETFs and memory stocks, purchasing more than 190,000 shares across four ETFs and further accumulating nearly 100,000 shares in Nanya Technology and Powerchip.
The three major institutions collectively bought NT$90.756 billion today, with foreign investors accounting for NT$75.695 billion, proprietary traders NT$15.061 billion, and investment trusts a marginal NT$0.01 billion—marking four consecutive trading days of joint net buying. In the futures market (TX Futures), foreign investors increased long positions for the third consecutive session, while open short positions dropped to 86,249 contracts.
Examining foreign investors’ top buys, clear preferences emerged for active ETFs and memory stocks. Specifically, four ETFs—Uni-President Upgrade 50 (00403A-TW), Kaiyi Taiwan Active (00407A-TW), United Taiwan Equity Growth (00981A-TW), and Fubon Future 50 (00991A-TW)—ranked among the top ten most bought securities, collectively netting over 192,000 shares. Foreign investors also added significant positions in Nanya Technology and Powerchip, accumulating nearly 100,000 shares combined.
Meanwhile, despite reporting positive news during its earnings call yesterday, Hon Hai (2317-TW) was heavily sold off by foreign investors, who dumped 33,000 shares—the largest single sell-off. Institutional investors also broadly adjusted traditional industry stocks, including China Steel (2002-TW), China Airlines (2610-TW), Asia Cement (1102-TW), EVA Airways (2618-TW), Cheng Shin Rubber (2105-TW), CPC Corporation (1314-TW), and Far Eastern New Century (1718-TW). These seven stocks saw a combined net sale of 122,000 shares.
Investment trusts and proprietary traders also showed shared interest in memory stocks. Investment trusts bought 1,778 shares of Nanya Technology, while proprietary traders purchased 1,755 shares of the same and accumulated over 5,000 shares in Powerchip.
