The S&P 500 index reached a new all-time high on Thursday (13th), briefly climbing to 7,816.70 points, surpassing the previous record of 7,793.68 set on August 5. The index rose 0.6% on the day, expanding its year-to-date cumulative gain to 13.5%. Behind this market rally, in addition to broad-based gains across most components, a group of exceptionally strong stocks emerged as key drivers of this market phase.

This year’s S&P 500 rally has shown notable breadth, with 350 out of 500 component stocks posting gains. However, leadership remains concentrated in select names. Semiconductor, data storage, server, and AI hardware-related companies have particularly stood out, with SanDisk surging 559.7% year-to-date—more than fivefold—the highest gain among all S&P 500 components.

The top 20 best-performing S&P 500 stocks year-to-date are:

- SanDisk Corp (SNDKV-US): +559.7% - Dell Technologies (DELL-US): +296.5% - Micron Technology (MU-US): +240.8% - Seagate Technology (STX-US): +234.8% - Western Digital (WDC-US): +186.5% - Intel (INTC-US): +185.7% - Marvell Technology (MRVL-US): +169.8% - Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE-US): +152.1% - Lumentum (LITE-US): +147.9% - Advanced Micro Devices (AMD-US): +130.9% - Applied Materials (AMAT-US): +118.3% - Teradyne (TER-US): +117.7% - Moderna (MRNA-US): +116.4% - Palo Alto Networks (PANW-US): +112.7% - Marathon Petroleum (MPC-US): +112.4% - Flex (FLEX-US): +109.6% - Valero Energy (VLO-US): +107.3% - Fortinet (FTNT-US): +105.8% - Lam Research (LRCX-US): +101.1% - Ciena (CIEN-US): +96.6%

The list reveals a clear dominance of technology hardware firms. Among the top ten, SanDisk, Micron, Seagate, and Western Digital are all closely tied to the memory or data storage markets. Dell and HPE are server and enterprise hardware providers, while chipmakers like Intel, Marvell, and AMD also rank highly.

Semiconductor equipment makers are also well represented, with Applied Materials, Teradyne, and Lam Research all posting gains exceeding 100%. Additionally, cybersecurity firms Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet, along with energy stocks Marathon Petroleum and Valero Energy, made the top 20, indicating this rally is not entirely confined to a single sector.

As the S&P 500 continues to climb, up 13.5% year-to-date and setting new records, even the lowest performer among these 20 stocks has nearly doubled, making them the most prominent leaders in this bullish U.S. equity market phase.
