According to recent foreign media reports, the world's richest man, Elon Musk, revealed during a SpaceX employee meeting that the power capacity of his subsidiary SpaceXAI (formerly xAI) data centers is expected to increase nearly sevenfold by the end of next year, reaching 10GW. This represents more than a sixfold surge from the current combined 1.4GW at its Memphis and Southaven facilities—achieving this leap within roughly 1.5 years.
U.S. tech publication Tom's Hardware reported on Thursday (the 13th) that Musk declared at the staff meeting that SpaceXAI has already built the 'world's most powerful AI training cluster' and intends to scale its operations to about ten times its current size by the end of next year.
Based on Musk's estimates, if each watt delivers a value of approximately $30 to $50 and the full 10GW of AI computing power comes online as planned, xAI could generate annual revenues ranging from $300 billion to $500 billion.
However, industry experts caution that describing data center capacity in GW does not equate directly to usable computing power. Significant electricity is consumed by cooling systems, lighting, power distribution, networking, storage, and servers. The actual proportion available for computation depends heavily on the overall infrastructure efficiency.
Analysts note that if Musk's expansion blueprint materializes, xAI would rise to the forefront of global AI infrastructure providers. Yet this ambition entails massive capital expenditures and formidable energy challenges. A 10GW power capacity is equivalent to the output of multiple large nuclear power plants. Securing stable electricity supply, advancing thermal dissipation technology, and managing supply chain logistics will be critical variables determining whether this vision becomes reality. Markets will closely monitor the company’s future financing moves and actual deployment progress.
