Driven by strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing, and cloud services, Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs announced today (20th) the export order statistics for July 2025. The monthly order value reached a record high of $97.94 billion, up 2.8% from the previous month and a significant 61.9% year-on-year increase. This marks the highest monthly figure in history and the 18th consecutive month of positive growth. Cumulative export orders from January to July totaled $602.03 billion, up 52.5% year-on-year.

By major product categories, the expansion of AI applications has triggered a broad boom in tech product orders. In July, electronics orders reached $41.32 billion, up 71.7% year-on-year, primarily due to sustained demand for AI and high-performance computing, which significantly boosted orders for memory, chipsets, and IC manufacturing. Information and communication products recorded $33.27 billion in orders, soaring 89.5% year-on-year, driven by strong demand for AI servers and networking equipment.

Traditional goods also showed signs of mild recovery. Equipment expansion by major semiconductor manufacturers boosted machinery product orders by 31.3% year-on-year in July. Basic metals rose 24.3% year-on-year, supported by demand for copper foil and copper-clad laminates in the AI supply chain and steel procurement. Plastic and rubber products and chemicals increased by 3.2% and 0.2%, respectively. In contrast, optical instruments saw weaker panel procurement momentum, with July orders totaling $1.81 billion, down 10.6% year-on-year.

By major ordering regions, the United States remains the core growth engine. July orders from the U.S. reached $40.79 billion, up 88.9% year-on-year, with information and communication products surging 156.8%. Orders from China and Hong Kong totaled $17.02 billion, up 47.2% year-on-year, led by increased electronics demand. ASEAN orders reached $16.51 billion, up 61.1% year-on-year, with electronics orders showing the most significant growth.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Economic Affairs noted that despite geopolitical tensions and trade policy uncertainties, global tech giants continue to expand AI infrastructure and cloud-related capital expenditures. Taiwan's advanced semiconductor processes and server supply chains hold a critical global position, ensuring sustained momentum in export orders. According to a survey of reporting companies, the August business outlook index stands at 51.3, indicating that overall export orders in August are expected to grow further compared to July.
