Greatek Targets Double-Digit Growth in Advanced Packaging Carriers, Supporting Both Round and Square Specifications

Rising demand for semiconductor advanced packaging is driving increased business opportunities for related carriers. Greatek (3680-TW) Chairman Chiu Ming-Chien stated on the 31st that the company began positioning itself in advanced packaging carriers as early as 2019. Today, its customers span globally, and with continued volume ramp-up in advanced packaging, the revenue contribution from related products is expected to gradually increase from 2026 to 2028, with the advanced packaging business maintaining double-digit growth.

Chiu pointed out that as semiconductor technology continues to evolve, maintaining high cleanliness during storage and transportation of high-value products such as wafers and photomasks—protecting them from Airborne Molecular Contamination (AMC)—has become a critical factor in improving process yield.

Having operated for over two decades, Greatek has long focused on high-end carriers and contamination prevention technologies, ensuring complete protection of wafers and photomasks during transport and storage. As manufacturing processes extend from front-end wafer fabrication to advanced packaging, the company has progressively expanded its existing carrier technologies into the advanced packaging market.

According to Chiu, Greatek began developing various carriers for advanced packaging around 2019. After years of investment, the company now serves a global customer base. With continued expansion of advanced packaging capacity, the proportion of related products in Greatek’s total revenue is expected to steadily rise, and the advanced packaging business is projected to achieve double-digit growth.

Advanced packaging technology is still rapidly evolving, with different players demanding circular, square, or varying sizes and process specifications—industry standards have yet to fully converge. However, Chiu believes this is not a barrier but rather an opportunity to highlight Taiwan’s supply chain strengths in customization. Regardless of whether future advanced packaging adopts square, circular, or other form factors, Greatek will fully support any customer requirements for mass production.

Chiu emphasized that each customer has unique needs in advanced packaging. While enforcing a single specification across all customers could benefit suppliers through scale, it may not be optimal for customers. As a semiconductor manufacturing enabler, Greatek believes in starting from customer needs, leveraging flexibility and customization to help clients achieve the most efficient mass production methods.

He further noted that one key reason Taiwan’s supply chain has built a competitive edge in the global semiconductor industry is its “flexibility.” Even with fragmented demands and limited volumes per specification, Taiwanese manufacturers can rapidly customize solutions, meet requirements, and maintain profitability—this remains a major differentiator compared to many overseas competitors.

Looking ahead, Chiu remains highly optimistic about the semiconductor industry. Numerous new semiconductor fabs and expansion projects are underway across Taiwan. Greatek is uniquely positioned to benefit from two growth trajectories—“advanced processes” and “advanced packaging”—both of which are expected to see sustained demand growth, serving as key drivers for the company’s medium- to long-term operations.
