Trump Says No AI Safety Frameworks Will Be Pushed in Xi Meeting: 'China Also Wants to Maintain Status Quo'

U.S. President Donald Trump said he does not expect any safety mechanisms for artificial intelligence (AI) to be established during his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In a social media post, Trump stated: "Meeting with President Xi of China today is an important day. Superintelligence (SI) will be a major topic, but I want to maintain the status quo. China's position is the same."

He added: "Our safeguard mechanism is the Department of Justice," referring to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

Global concerns over AI are rising. World leaders and AI laboratories have warned that if the technology is not developed safely, it could pose a threat to humanity.

Earlier this week, Trump dismissed calls at the United Nations for an international agreement to constrain AI development, emphasizing that existing institutions would be capable of addressing any potential risks.
