How much do you know about menopausal discomforts?
Around the time you turn 40, you start to feel vaguely unwell.
Without a clear cause, you suffer from hot flashes, fatigue, and irritability.
While discomfort associated with menopause is something many people experience, the reality and coping methods are still not well understood.
Therefore, in collaboration with Kyowa Yakuhin Co., Ltd., we conducted a survey on "Menopausal Discomforts" targeting 500 men and women nationwide aged 40 and over.

37.6% answered they "know well" or "somewhat know" about menopausal symptoms
First, we investigated how well people know the symptoms that can occur during menopause.
The results showed that "don't know much" was the most frequent response at 33.4%, followed by "somewhat know" at 31.8%, "hardly know" at 29.0%, and "know well" at 5.8%.
Despite menopausal discomforts being something that can happen to anyone, the reality is that awareness has not yet spread sufficiently.
The most common trigger for learning about menopausal symptoms was "changes in my own physical condition" at 45.7%
Next, we asked those who know about menopausal symptoms what prompted them to learn about them.
The result was that "changes in my own physical condition" was the most common at 45.7%, followed closely by "TV, newspapers, magazines" at 45.2%. Next came "Internet/SNS" at 31.9%, and "Conversations with friends/acquaintances" at 25.0%.
While many people start researching or becoming aware of menopause only after their own bodies change, information from media like TV and magazines also plays a significant role.
Furthermore, "hospitals/doctors" accounted for only 5.9%, indicating that learning about menopause through medical institutions is still a minority.
65.4% answered that they "have experienced" their own or a family member's/partner's menopausal discomforts
Next, we asked those who know about menopausal symptoms whether they or their family members/partners have experienced menopausal discomforts.
The results were: "I myself experienced it" at 33.5%, "Family member/partner experienced it" at 22.3%, and "I myself and family member/partner both experienced it" at 9.6%. In total, 65.4% have experienced menopausal discomforts in some form.
"Never experienced" was 34.6%.
The results show that two out of three people who know about menopausal symptoms have actually faced discomfort. It is clear that many people have become aware of menopause not only through their own experiences but also through changes in their close family or partners.
Top symptoms are "hot flashes/flushing" at 54.5%, "irritability" at 49.6%, and "fatigue/lethargy" at 44.7%
Next, we asked those who have experienced menopausal discomforts about the specific symptoms...
