Survey on Career Advancement and Reskilling

Amid labor shortages and diversifying work styles, "reskilling" is gaining attention as a mechanism to support both corporate and individual growth. Some are proactive about skill development, while others are overwhelmed by daily tasks.

We conducted a survey in collaboration with Staff Brain, targeting 400 working men and women across Japan, regarding "career advancement and reskilling."

70.8% Feel They Are Not Developing Skills or Career in Their Current Job

When asked if they feel they are developing their skills or career through their current job, 7.3% said "very much" and 22.0% said "somewhat." Conversely, 37.5% said "not much" and 33.3% said "not at all," totaling 70.8% who feel they are not growing.

"Acquiring Qualifications" Tops the List for Skill Development at 16.3%

Regarding current or future efforts for skill development, "acquiring qualifications" was the most common at 16.3%, followed by "self-study" at 16.0%, "IT/digital skill acquisition" at 7.0%, and "e-learning" at 6.0%.

61.1% Would Stay Longer if Education and Training Systems Were Improved

When asked if they would stay longer at their company if education and training systems were improved, 12.3% said "definitely" and 48.8% said "somewhat," totaling 61.1%.

40.6% Are Interested in "Reskilling"

When asked about their interest in reskilling, 10.8% said "very interested" and 29.8% said "somewhat interested," totaling 40.6%.

Top Expectation for Learning Support is "Free or Subsidized Training" at 38.3%

Finally, when asked what kind of learning support they expect from companies, "free or subsidized training" was the top choice at 38.3%, followed by "qualification acquisition support" at 23.8% and "practical training" at 20.0%.

Conclusion

The survey shows that 70.8% of workers do not feel they are growing in their current jobs. 61.1% would stay longer if training systems were better. The most requested support is "free or subsidized training." Staff Brain supports worker growth through structured training programs.
