Is "dropping off and picking up" laundry a burden for busy modern people?

There are surprisingly many occasions in life when we use laundry services, such as for seasonal clothing changes or suit care. However, for those busy with work and household chores, it can be a burden to drop off or pick up items within the store's operating hours.

Unable to drop off when you want to, unable to pick up when you want to.

Perhaps the more busy people are, the more they feel these minor stresses.

Therefore, in collaboration with Rinavis, a delivery laundry service, we conducted a survey on "Laundry Situations of Busy Modern People" targeting 300 men and women nationwide who responded in a preliminary survey that they "have used laundry services."

Survey Overview of "Survey on Laundry Situations of Busy Modern People"

Survey Method: Internet-based questionnaire

Survey Period: May 26, 2026 - June 2, 2026

Target Respondents: Men and women nationwide who responded in a preliminary survey that they "have used laundry services."

Valid Responses: 300 samples

Questions:

Question 1: Have you ever given up on using a laundry service because its business hours did not match your schedule?

Question 2: Please tell us the reasons and circumstances.

Question 3: Do you find dropping off and picking up laundry at a store troublesome?

Question 4: Please select all that apply as reasons why you find it troublesome. (Multiple selections allowed)

Question 5: How convenient do you find delivery laundry services, where laundry collection and delivery are completed at home?

Question 6: Please tell us the reasons.

*In principle, values are rounded to the second decimal place, so the total may not be 100%.

28.4% responded that they have "given up on using" laundry services due to business hours not matching their schedule.

First, we asked if respondents had ever given up on using a laundry service because its business hours did not match their schedule.

As a result, 4.7% answered "many times," 22.0% answered "a few times," and 1.7% answered "once." While the degree varied, 28.4% of respondents indicated they had given up on using the service.

On the other hand, 71.7% answered "not at all."

While many people do not feel inconvenienced by business hours, it is clear that nearly 30% have refrained from using laundry services due to incompatible business hours.

We asked for the specific reasons and circumstances, and here are some examples:

Please tell us the reasons and circumstances.

- I went after work but didn't make it in time. (20s, Female)

- The business hours are not suitable for salarymen. (30s, Male)

- The regular closing day coincided with my day off. (30s, Female)

- I couldn't make it for the finished laundry in two days. (30s, Female)

- Time passed while I was doing housework. (40s, Female)

- The store was closed after working overtime. (40s, Male)

We received comments from people who went to the store after work or overtime but couldn't make it before closing. Others also expressed concerns about business hours and pickup dates, such as their day off coinciding with the store's regular closing day or not being able to pick up their laundry on time.

It appears that for people who work during the day or are busy with housework, dropping off and picking up laundry according to store hours can be a burden.

61.3% responded that they find "dropping off and picking up" laundry at a store troublesome.

Next, we asked if respondents sometimes found dropping off and picking up laundry at a store troublesome.

As a result, 19.0% answered "very troublesome" and 42.3% answered "somewhat troublesome," for a total of 61.3% who responded that they find it troublesome. On the other hand, 22.0% answered "not very troublesome" and 16.7% answered "not troublesome at all."

Furthermore, we asked those who found it troublesome for the reasons why.

The most common reason was "many clothes and difficult to carry," at 40.2%.

This was followed by "the store is far from home or work" at 31.5%, "lack of time due to work or childcare" at 22.8%, "inconvenient pickup timing" at 18.5%, "difficult to visit during business hours" at 15.8%, and "other" at 9.2%.

Reasons related to the burden of carrying clothes and the distance to the store were among the top responses.

When trying to drop off a large amount of laundry, the clothes are heavy and bulky, and if the store is far away, the round trip effort increases.

For those with limited time due to work or childcare, it is evident that the process of "going to the store" and "picking up after completion" is more of a burden than the act of dropping off the laundry itself.

73.7% responded that they find delivery laundry services, where collection and delivery are completed at home, convenient.

Finally, we asked how convenient respondents found delivery laundry services, where laundry collection and delivery are completed at home.

As a result, 26.7% answered "very convenient" and 47.0% answered "somewhat convenient," for a total of 73.7% who responded that they find it convenient. On the other hand, 18.3% answered "not very convenient" and 8.0% answered "not convenient at all."

Furthermore, we asked for the reasons why they found it convenient, and here are some examples:

Reasons for finding it convenient

- It eliminates the weight and hassle. (20s, Female)

- I can do it at my own convenience. (20s, Male)

- I can handle the procedures from home, and I can specify the exact date I can ship and receive. (30s, Female)

- It's easy, and I don't have to worry about the weather. (30s, Female)

- It's a hassle to go to the store twice to drop off and pick up, so it's a relief that this is eliminated. (40s, Female)

- I can prepare the laundry by the time they come to pick it up, and then I just have to hand it over at the door, which is easy. (40s, Female)

Many comments indicated that not having to carry heavy clothes and being able to ship and receive according to one's own schedule were convenient. The convenience of not having to travel to the store, as well as not having to worry about business hours or weather, were also highly rated.

Completing the entire process from collection to delivery while at home appears to be a factor that makes laundry services more accessible for busy people.

Summary

This survey revealed that nearly 30% of respondents have given up on using laundry services due to business hours, and over 60% find dropping off and picking up at stores troublesome.

The background to this appears to be the burden of carrying heavy, bulky clothes and the mismatch between store operating hours and people's daily rhythms. This is precisely why over 70% of people find delivery laundry services, which are completed at home, to be "convenient" and attractive.

Unable to find the time to visit the store, finding it a burden to carry heavy clothes.

Why not consider incorporating delivery laundry services, which can be completed at home, into your daily life if you are facing such challenges?
