NHK Culture Nagoya Branch is launching a seminar series titled 'Talking About Queen in Nagoya' led by Queen researcher Takayuki Ishizumi. The three-part series will cover the 40th anniversary of the album 'A Kind of Magic', the history of Queen's concerts in Nagoya, and the 80th anniversary of Freddie Mercury's birth.

Seminar Schedule (Planned)

1. June 6 (Sat): 'Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of A Kind of Magic & The Magic Tour!'

It has been 40 years since Queen's 12th original album, 'A Kind of Magic', was released in the UK on June 2, 1986.

It also marks 40 years since the 'Magic Tour', which became Freddie Mercury's final tour.

The June session will focus on the 40th anniversary of 'A Kind of Magic' and the 'Magic Tour' with thorough analysis and commentary.

2. August 1 (Sat): 'Queen and Nagoya'

Since their first concert at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium on April 22, 1975, Queen has held a total of five concerts in Nagoya, including performances in March 1976, April 1979, October 1982, and May 1985.

The second seminar in August will feature valuable audio and photos from these Nagoya performances to provide a three-dimensional perspective on Queen and Nagoya.

3. September 5 (Sat): 'Commemorating the 80th Birth Anniversary of Freddie Mercury!'

Freddie Mercury, the vocalist of Queen who was born on September 5, 1946, in Zanzibar, Africa (now Tanzania), would have turned 80 on this day.

The third session will trace Freddie Mercury's life from before he joined Queen to his later years, using video, photos, and audio.

Queen Researcher: Takayuki Ishizumi

Takayuki Ishizumi, born in Kyoto in 1963, is a Queen researcher. He writes commentary for CDs/DVDs, appears on TV and radio, and organizes/hosts fan events such as 'Queen Day' at Haneda Airport, as well as the 'New Queen Seminar' in Tokyo (Harajuku), Naha, and Sapporo.

Since launching the 'Talking About Queen' seminar at the Aoyama branch in June 2020, he has held 93 sessions to date, including those at the Kyoto branch.

He has authored three books: 'Queen All-Song Guide' (2019), which explains all 192 songs on Queen's 15 original albums; 'Queen All-Song Guide 2: Live & Solo' (2021), which covers live albums, videos, and solo works; and 'Queen Greatest Days: 366 Memories' (2023), which chronicles Queen's events day-by-day.
