Under the framework of the strategic collaboration with Amazon announced in November 2023, the NTT Group has been exploring the provision of services utilizing low-orbit satellite communications. As concrete progress, group companies NTT Docomo Business, Ltd. (formerly NTT Communications Corporation), NTT ME Corporation, and NTT Media Supply Corporation have signed reseller agreements with Amazon Leo by June 9, 2026. Moving forward, they will proceed with technical verification and service content examination for service provision, and establish a system for offering services to corporations and government agencies in Japan.
In recent years, the importance of communications utilizing space networks has been increasing for strengthening disaster resilience and addressing aging infrastructure. The NTT Group is promoting network decentralization and the in-house ownership and operation of satellite and communication equipment. Through the signing of this reseller agreement with Amazon Leo, they will provide high-speed, reliable satellite broadband communication services utilizing a low-orbit satellite constellation, contributing to the further stabilization of Japan's communication infrastructure.
Furthermore, the NTT Group will leverage its strengths in terrestrial networks and system integration cultivated to date to support a wide range of use cases, including backup during disasters using Amazon Leo, advancement of communication infrastructure in remote areas, islands, and mountainous regions, and advanced connectivity services for mobility, IoT, and industrial applications.
Going forward, under the space business brand "NTT C89", the NTT Group aims to realize a next-generation communication infrastructure that enables seamless connectivity everywhere by promoting the fusion of non-terrestrial networks (NTN), including Amazon Leo, with terrestrial networks (TN-NTN).
Amazon Leo plans to provide high-speed, low-latency communications in almost any location worldwide by coordinating thousands of satellites with secure ground networks and utilizing small, high-performance antennas through Amazon's low-orbit satellite communication network.
