15 Indonesian high school students to study forests and forestry in Kiso Town from May 11 (Mon) to May 13 (Wed).

The National Land Afforestation Promotion Organization (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Junichi Hamada) and OISCA International (Headquarters: Suginami-ku, Tokyo; President: Etsuko Nakano) will host the "Japan-Indonesia Green Youth International Exchange Program." The initiative invites high school students and educators involved in forest conservation in Indonesia to Japan, with the aim of fostering the next generation of leaders in sustainable forest management and promoting international exchange.

A total of 15 participants—including eight high school students, five teachers, and two environmental education leaders—will visit Japan to gain firsthand knowledge of the current state of forests and forestry. They will study initiatives for forest conservation and management led by diverse stakeholders across industry, government, and academia. Through interactions with Japanese high school students and various forestry professionals, the participants will deepen their understanding of sustainable resource management and the vital connection between local communities and forests.

As part of the program, the group will visit Kiso Town in Nagano Prefecture from Monday, May 11, to Wednesday, May 13. In Kiso, they will participate in exchange classes at Nagano Prefectural Kiso Seisho High School and Nagano Prefectural Forestry College, both of which offer forestry programs. They will also visit local forestry cooperatives to learn experientially about Japan’s forestry practices and educational efforts. Additionally, visits to the Akasawa Natural Recreation Forest and Makio Dam will help them understand how forests nurture water resources and support downstream livelihoods, while exploring the history and natural environment of a region that has long coexisted with its forests.

**■ "Children's Forest Program" (CFP)**

This program supports tree-planting activities conducted by children on school grounds and in neighboring communities. Through planting, nurturing trees, and practical environmental education, the program aims to foster a "love for nature" and a "spirit of valuing greenery" in children while promoting global greening. Currently, 5,670 schools in 37 countries are participating, conducting reforestation activities and environmental education in their respective regions.
