The Shikata Learning Community (Shikata LC), which runs various programs for students aiming to study abroad or interested in cross-cultural exchange at National University Corporation Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City; President: Yasutomo Nasu), held a "Welcome Party" on May 16, 2026. The event aimed to welcome new members and facilitate interaction among community members, drawing a total of 61 participants.

Participants came from diverse countries, including Japan, Indonesia, Myanmar, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ghana, Tanzania, China, Poland, and Canada, creating a highly international atmosphere for exchange.

At the beginning of the event, all participants introduced themselves, providing an opportunity to learn about each other's cultures and backgrounds, which helped them deepen their connections.

During the subsequent potluck party, participants gathered around dishes they brought, enjoying conversation and experiencing the cultures and traditions of various countries through food. Furthermore, a live performance by "Las Chicas" brought high energy to the venue, with many participants singing and dancing to the rhythmic Latin American music.

In another highlight, a participant from Poland introduced the "Macarena Dance." Seeing participants from various countries dance together further expanded the circle of friendship.

The friendly atmosphere continued with karaoke, group games, and free-talk sessions, which helped build many new connections among the attendees.

Shikata LC plans to continue holding events where students, researchers, and local residents can easily interact, promoting international exchange and community building. Please look forward to the ongoing initiatives of Okayama University, an open, regional core, and distinctive research university.
