Okta, Inc., a leading identity management service provider, has unveiled the 'Okta Enterprise AI Index,' a comprehensive study on the usage of AI tools in the corporate sector.
This research is based on four years of anonymized application access data—from June 2022 to June 2026—covering over 20,000 organizations on the Okta Platform. The study focuses on software and coding assistants used by knowledge workers and developers, spanning six key categories of generative AI: foundation models, developer tools, enterprise search, collaboration and productivity, audio transcription/meeting AI, and creative suites.
Key findings include:
1. Fastest-Growing AI Apps In a ranking based on customer growth and net new account volume, AI-native firms Anthropic and OpenAI dominated the top two spots. Simultaneously, established platforms like Google Workspace and GitHub remained highly ranked, demonstrating that enterprises are combining specialized startup tools with trusted existing platforms.
2. Shift in AI Industry Landscape The growth trajectory shows that Anthropic surpassed OpenAI in corporate account volume in March 2026, and in monthly active users (MAU) in April 2026.
3. Paradigm Shift: Toward Autonomous AI Agents Corporate AI has evolved from the 'autocomplete' and 'chat' eras to the current era of 'autonomous AI agents,' where AI executes complex tasks without constant human instructions. AI-native applications such as Cursor and Claude Code are experiencing rapid, hockey-stick growth.
4. Rise of Multi-Vendor AI As of June 2026, the majority (approximately 57%) of enterprise customers are using two or more AI platforms simultaneously, signaling an accelerated shift away from reliance on a single provider.
In response to the security challenges posed by the evolution of autonomous AI agents, Okta aims to strengthen the connection infrastructure for safely deploying AI tools by providing a neutral identity layer.
