Oedo Onsen Monogatari Aizu Offers Akabeko Traditional Craft Painting Experience

GENSEN HOLDINGS Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Shunsuke Kawasaki), which operates 75 hot spring hotels, inns, and theme parks nationwide, is holding a special event at its hot spring inn "Oedo Onsen Monogatari Aizu" in the Aizu area of Fukushima Prefecture. From Sunday, July 19 to Sunday, August 23, during the summer vacation period, guests can experience painting "Akabeko," a traditional Aizu folk toy.

"Akabeko" is a representative folk craft of the Aizu region, long cherished as a lucky charm for warding off evil and disease. In recent years, its charming appearance has garnered renewed attention on social media and among younger generations.

We planned the "Akabeko Painting Experience," which can be easily enjoyed within the inn, with the desire to offer families and groups staying with us during summer vacation not only hot springs and delicious meals, but also a special experience to connect with Aizu's history and culture.

Oedo Onsen Monogatari Aizu (Aizu-Wakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture)

Guests will freely draw patterns and write characters on a plain red Akabeko using paints and pens. You can recreate traditional designs or create a colorful, modern Akabeko with your own unique ideas. This is an activity that children and adults alike can lose track of time and become absorbed in. The completed Akabeko can be taken home as the result of a summer vacation research project or as a souvenir of your trip.

(Operates from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and long vacation periods).

Buffet Featuring Summer Delights: From July 1 to August 31, a limited-time summer menu will be available, featuring colorful dishes such as stir-fried pork and summer vegetables with honey mustard sauce, and cold capellini with octopus and summer vegetables. Stamina-boosting and refreshing dishes like grilled eel sushi, deep-fried skewers, and refreshing ocean blue cake will be served.
