Packcity Japan Co., Ltd. (PCJ), the operator of 'PUDO Station' open-type delivery lockers, has partnered with Kiviaq Co., Ltd. to launch a demonstration experiment for receiving pharmaceuticals at PUDO Stations starting May 27 (Wednesday), 2026. This initiative allows users, even when feeling unwell, to pick up their medications via delivery lockers on their daily routes without visiting a physical pharmacy, enabling completely non-face-to-face transactions.
Background and Objectives: PCJ aims to liberate people from the constraints of time and location through its mission of making delivery easy for everyone, utilizing its network of approximately 7,000 lockers nationwide. Kiviaq, operating under the concept of a 'pharmacy you don't need to visit,' has been building a new pharmaceutical supply model, including prescription delivery in as little as 30 minutes. Traditional pharmacies have long faced challenges such as long wait times, travel burdens, privacy concerns, and risks of secondary infections. By combining the efforts of both companies, they aim to realize 'Pharmaceuticals x Daily Routes x Non-face-to-face Pickup' to provide an unprecedentedly convenient medicine receiving experience.
Service Overview: Through this service, medications dispensed via online medical consultations and digital prescriptions can be received at a PUDO Station designated by the user.
Usage Flow: 1. The user selects 'PUDO Station' as the pickup location on Kiviaq's LINE app. 2. The dispensed medication is delivered to the PUDO Station. 3. A pickup notification (passcode/QR code) is sent to the user. 4. The user authenticates at the PUDO Station to retrieve the medication. Through this experiment, the companies will verify benefits such as: ① Non-face-to-face/contactless pickup, ② 24-hour availability at the user's convenience, and ③ Zero wait time.
Experiment Details: - Start Date: May 27, 2026 - Target Areas: Specific areas in Tokyo (Minato, Chiyoda, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Setagaya, and Ota wards) - Target Lockers: Initial launch at approximately 140 PUDO Stations in the target areas (to be expanded sequentially)
Expected Outcomes: 1. Improved Medical Access: Enabling pickup in familiar locations even when unwell or unable to go far. 2. Enhanced Customer Experience (CX): Reducing wait and travel times and solving privacy issues. 3. Logistics Efficiency Improvement: Contributing to last-mile efficiency by reducing redeliveries.
Future Outlook: PCJ aims to evolve PUDO Stations beyond simple delivery lockers into a multi-functional social infrastructure that supports various aspects of daily life.
