PIX4D, a global leader in photogrammetry solutions (Headquarters: Switzerland, Japan Branch: Pix4D Inc., hereinafter "PIX4D"), announces the implementation of "3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS)", a next-generation 3D rendering technology, into its flagship products, "PIX4Dmatic" and "PIX4Dcloud".

This support was first introduced to the cloud product "PIX4Dcloud" in 2025, and with the stable version update of "PIX4Dmatic" in May 2026, 3DGS support is now complete across the entire product line. This enables customers to flexibly build workflows tailored to their business needs in both cloud processing and local PC processing environments.

Particularly noteworthy is the overwhelming convenience brought by advanced integration with the smartphone app "PIX4Dcatch". Without relying on expensive dedicated devices or drones, users can achieve both measurement accuracy suitable for actual surveys and realistic 3D spatial reproduction with just their smartphone.

Scanning with the smartphone app "PIX4Dcatch" generates 3DGS with photo-like realism. In addition to visual representation, 3D models with absolute coordinates and measurement accuracy can be created. This dramatically enhances the quality and speed of operations requiring record-keeping.

Traditional 3D modeling represented space using point clouds and textured meshes, but sparse point clouds and planar representations had limitations in visual reproducibility. PIX4D solves this challenge by incorporating the latest rendering technology, 3DGS, into its surveying workflow. This allows for the generation of 3D models with higher visual reproducibility, in addition to traditional point clouds and meshes. By achieving both visual "beauty" and "accuracy" based on coordinate values, it dramatically evolves the utilization of digital twins in construction, infrastructure inspection, and public safety fields.

Four Innovative Points of PIX4D's 3DGS

Professional Surveying with a Smartphone: Easy Data Acquisition with PIX4Dcatch

Expensive laser scanners and drones are no longer essential. Simply launch the iOS/Android app "PIX4Dcatch" and walk while capturing the target object to easily acquire data for 3DGS. High-quality 3D scans can be created even indoors or in urban areas where drones cannot fly. Furthermore, by linking an RTK receiver with a smartphone, 3DGS models with absolute accuracy of several centimeters can be realized.

Of course, in addition to smartphones, PIX4D also supports 3DGS generation from aerial images captured by drones. As a global leader in drone photogrammetry, PIX4D provides overwhelming visual reproduction for all sites, from large-scale data captured by drones to small-scale data captured by smartphones.

Spatial Reproduction with "Absolute Accuracy": Practicality Beyond Visual Representation

While general 3DGS focuses on visual representation, PIX4D's solution maintains surveying-grade "absolute accuracy". Absolute accuracy is achieved through integration with RTK receivers for smartphone scans, and through the use of RTK drones or the placement of Ground Control Points (GCPs) for drone surveys. The generated 3D models have correct positional information and dimensions, allowing them to be directly used for distance measurements, volume calculations, and comparison with BIM data.

Dramatic Improvement in Expressiveness: Perfect Reproduction of Difficult "Details" and "Textures"

Fine structures like fences and handrails, and textures of vehicles that reflect light, which often became noise in traditional point clouds and 3D meshes, are reproduced with lifelike realism. This significantly improves the quality of accurate on-site understanding from remote locations and presentations to stakeholders.

Flexible Solutions Tailored to Needs (On-Premise & Cloud)

Users can choose between two processing platforms according to their site environment and security requirements.

- PIX4Dmatic (On-Premise): High-speed processing of large-scale data on a local PC. For offline environments or projects requiring high confidentiality.

- PIX4Dcloud (Cloud): Automatic processing simply by uploading to a browser. For rapid data sharing and collaboration among teams.

PIX4D's integration of 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) into its product line is a groundbreaking step that fundamentally changes the way surveying and 3D modeling are done.

Fine structures and areas with poor textures can be modeled in 3D without noise. A wide range of applications are possible, from inspections requiring visual evaluation to quantitative assessments. The realism of the visual representation also significantly improves the quality of information sharing among stakeholders.

High-precision 3D spatial reproduction, which previously required "specialized knowledge" and "expensive equipment," is now accessible to everyone with a single smartphone operation. This solution, which balances visual beauty (realism) with accuracy suitable for surveying practice (absolute accuracy), strongly supports the acceleration of DX in construction sites, the efficiency of infrastructure inspections, and the utilization of digital twins in urban planning and disaster response.

PIX4D will continue to contribute to social safety and innovation as a pioneer in photogrammetry, digitizing the "present" of all sites most accurately and clearly.
