Discovery of a 'wrinkle-specific moisturizing mechanism'

Pola Chemical Industries, responsible for R&D in the POLA ORBIS Group, has discovered that wrinkle areas suffer from a specific type of dryness. The study reveals that the expression of 'SASPase', an enzyme that increases the moisturizing factor filaggrin, is reduced in wrinkled skin. This reduction increases 'IL-8', which can cause deeper dermal wrinkles. Furthermore, they found that a mixed extract of Geranium robertianum and Gardenia increases SASPase expression by about 2 times and suppresses IL-8 by about 30%, proposing a new skincare concept of wrinkle-specific moisturization.
