In celebration of our 25th anniversary, we are proud to introduce two exquisite video art works from our new collection, presented in two phases. The first phase features a new video work by Christian Marclay, while the second phase debuts a work by Gerhard Richter, who has expanded his painting practice into video expression.
The Pola Museum of Art opened in Hakone, Kanagawa, in 2002. While our core collection consists of 19th and 20th-century modern paintings, including Impressionist works, we have also focused on acquiring works by internationally acclaimed contemporary artists in recent years.
Please enjoy this exhibition along with the concurrently held 'A New Eye: Monet and 21st Century Art'.

Christian Marclay is known for his innovative activities in time-based arts, particularly those related to music and film. 'The Door' is a monumental work produced over more than a decade, utilizing citations and collages from a vast array of films throughout history. It creates a labyrinthine world that freely travels through film history and repeats infinitely, generating abundant images while feigning continuity of time and space.
