[June is National Food Education Month]

Under the Basic Plan for Shokuiku (Food Education), the Japanese government has designated every June as "Food Education Month," during which national and local governments, along with relevant organizations, actively promote food education initiatives to deepen public understanding.

As part of its Food Education Month activities, Hokkaido hosted the "Food Education Panel Exhibition" on June 2 (Tue) to 3 (Wed), Reiwa 8, at the special exhibition space on the first floor of the Hokkaido Government Main Building. The event introduced panels on food-related themes and local food education initiatives, attracting approximately 200 visitors.

Through panels posing questions such as "What is food education, and why is it important?" and "Do you express your gratitude?", the exhibition encouraged the public to reflect on their daily eating habits and promoted broader awareness among Hokkaido residents.

Additionally, panels on the Food Loss Reduction Ordinance and the Second Hokkaido Food Loss Reduction Promotion Plan, established in March of Reiwa 8, were displayed to encourage residents to actively reduce food waste.

The Hokkaido Agricultural Administration Office operates the "Consumer's Room" to clearly communicate everyday information on dietary life and initiatives by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries through panel displays and brochure distribution.

For the June exhibition, a collaborative effort between the Hokkaido Agricultural Administration Office, Sapporo City, and Hokkaido introduced themes such as balanced diets and food loss reduction, aiming to increase visitors’ interest in food education.
