"Journey Tracing the Memories of Water" Experience Points

(1) An original visual book that delivers the itinerary of a journey visiting four temples/shrines and the hotel, composed of five chapters.

The journey begins even before checking into the hotel. An original visual book, which navigates the day's itinerary as a five-chapter story, will be mailed to your home before your stay. From the moment you hold it, your anticipation for the trip to Kamakura will quietly build.

By scanning the QR code included in the visual book, you can also play an audio guide. You can explore the temple grounds while listening to the "Water Story" narrated by the chief priest of Jochi-ji Temple, Eon Asahina, the starting point of this journey, and Eiji Akiyama, representative of Fugah Co., Ltd., the seller of the craft gin "Tsuyu."

Image of Jochi-ji Temple

[Chapter 1] Jochi-ji Temple "Water of Origin" A single drop born from the rock becomes a rich flow.

The journey begins in the serene atmosphere of Kita-Kamakura. Jochi-ji Temple, beautiful with its seasonal nature, has the "Kanro no I" well, one of Kamakura's Ten Wells.

This well water is the source water for the craft gin "Tsuyu" that you will savor tonight. With the glass awaiting you at the end of the journey in mind, you walk through the quiet grounds.

Image of Kencho-ji Temple

[Chapter 2] Kencho-ji Temple "Water of Teachings" The dragon brings the rain of wisdom. Its teachings still pour down on Kamakura.

At the Hatto (Dharma Hall) of Kencho-ji Temple, the first of Kamakura's Five Great Zen Temples, you will encounter the ceiling painting "Unryu-zu" (Dragon in the Clouds).

The "Kinryu-sui" and "Furo-sui" wells that once sprang up within the grounds are now lost, and only their sites convey the memory of water.

Image of Enno-ji Temple

[Chapter 3] Enno-ji Temple "Water of Boundaries" The other shore and this shore. Past and future. Truth and deception. A quiet moment to face yourself before the King of Hell.

Be welcomed by Enma-O (King of Hell), who symbolizes the Sanzu River, and spend a quiet moment facing yourself.

Image of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine

[Chapter 4] Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine "Open Water" Water connects people. Warriors, townspeople, travelers.

Water is a prayer and a symbol of prosperity, still passed down today.

The "Yanagihara Shinchi" pond, one of the scattered ponds within Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, with its tranquil setting, naturally brings a sense of peace.

Image of Kamakura Prince Hotel

[Chapter 5] Kamakura Prince Hotel "Water Returned" The place where all water returns, the sea. The sea embraces in its deep bosom every drop that seeps from the mountains, every prayer, every wish of the people.

The destination of the "Journey Tracing the Memories of Water" is the sea. Quench your thirst with a final glass of "Tsuyu," infused with the spirit of Zen, reminiscent of the "Water of Origin" encountered today, just as travelers of old quenched their thirst with water from the Kanro no I well.

(2) A French course and original "Tsuyu" cocktail pairing enjoyed while gazing at the sea.

The culmination of the journey is the pairing of craft gin "Tsuyu" with exquisite cuisine. A full French course will be served on plates from "Hakukodo," a restorer of Kamakura's traditional craft, Kamakura-bori. We will offer a refreshing caviar frappé and delicate desserts that express the theme of "water" for this journey. Please enjoy a luxurious moment of fine wine and cuisine while gazing at the sea below.

Background of the "Journey Tracing the Memories of Water" Implementation

The world is currently facing a severe water shortage. *1

Yet, water continues to be consumed as if it were commonplace. As a hotel standing right before the sea in a town where the sea is close by, we wanted to re-examine the "existence of water" when we encountered Kamakura Craft Gin "Tsuyu." More intriguing than its impressive credentials, such as winning the highest gold award for two consecutive years at the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition, was the fact that it uses water from the Kanro no I well at Jochi-ji Temple, a prestigious Zen temple in Kamakura. The water from Jochi-ji Temple, which once flourished as a place of learning for many ascetic monks and quenched the thirst of many people. Kamakura, which has historically lacked water resources, made water precious and supported people's lives, culture, and even history.

By strolling through Kamakura with water as the keyword, we can re-recognize the multifaceted power of water.

We propose an autumn stroll in Kamakura, reflecting on how even the water of the majestic sea begins as a single drop seeping from the mountains.

[About Jochi-ji Temple]

A Zen temple, fourth of Kamakura's Five Great Zen Temples, located in Kita-Kamakura. Founded in 1281, its grounds are designated a National Historic Site. The principal image, a wooden triad of Buddhas (Amida Nyorai, Shaka Nyorai, Miroku Nyorai), are revered deities who listen to people's wishes across the past, present, and future.

It was favored by cultural figures from the early Showa period, with film director Yasujiro Ozu and Japanese painter Yūki Ogura residing there.

Literary figures such as Tatsuhiko Shibusawa are buried in the temple's cemetery.
