During the hot summer days, Sanyoso is offering the "Japanese Garden Cafe," proposing a new way to spend time not just by "walking through" the Japanese garden, but by "viewing and savoring" it. This initiative, allowing guests to enjoy local tea and sweets while gazing at the Japanese garden from rooms designated as National Tangible Cultural Properties, has been highly acclaimed by a wide range of customers, including hotel guests, local residents, and tourists. We have now decided to extend the event period due to its popularity.

Please spend a relaxing summer moment in the quiet space woven by historic architecture and the lush green garden.

About Sanyoso Main Building "Shofuu"

Sanyoso was built in 1929 as a villa for Hisaya Iwasaki, the eldest son of Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of the former Mitsubishi zaibatsu. It was constructed as a refined Sukiya-zukuri style Japanese architectural residence within a magnificent Japanese garden created by Ogawa Jihei, a gardener from Kyoto. In June 2017, it was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property by the Agency for Cultural Affairs as a valuable national treasure.

The following 7 structures have been registered as Tangible Cultural Properties:

Entrance Hall and Tea House Building, Guest Room Building, Central Building, Living Room and Study Building, Miyuki-no-ma (Imperial Visit Room), Waiting Area, Roji-mon (Garden Gate)

About Sanyoso Japanese Garden

The Sanyoso Japanese Garden is a stroll garden of approximately 3,000 tsubo (approx. 9,900 sqm) centered around a pond. Created by Kyoto gardener Ogawa Jihei, it offers a space where one can enjoy the natural beauty of the four seasons. The sound of the wind, the chirping of wild birds, and the light reflecting on the water's surface further enhance the garden's charm.
