The Protean Career Association (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Representative Directors: Kennosuke Tanaka and Toru Ariyama, hereinafter 'the Association') is an organization that supports building better relationships between organizations and individuals, as well as proactive individual career development.
We have now started the archive stream of the session 'The Next-Generation Map for CHRO Careers: The New Leader Figure Connecting Management and HR,' which was held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, as part of the 'Human Capital Management Manifesto 2026'.
This session featured Chiharu Takakura, Former Director and CHRO of Rohto Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and Masato Arisawa, CHRO (at the time / current Senior Advisor) of Isuzu Motors Limited. As human capital management evolves from a mere 'system' to a 'management strategy', they discussed the roles, perspectives, and optimal connections with management expected of a CHRO.
They presented a vision of the CHRO not merely as a person in charge of HR, but as an entity that 'implements management strategy from the perspective of people and organizations.' Essential conditions for 'future HR leaders' were discussed from various angles, including organizational change in the AI era, talent portfolios, and career ownership.

Event Highlights
The Decisive Difference Between 'HR Manager' and 'CHRO' It was discussed that a CHRO is not simply the head of the HR department, but a role deeply involved in the management strategy itself. Beyond recruitment, training, and system operation, the future CHRO is required to envision 'what kind of people and organization to build for business growth' from a management perspective.
Practical Execution: Not Letting Human Capital Management End at 'Disclosure' Human capital management does not function solely through information disclosure or KPI development. It is necessary to connect it with front-line management and the career autonomy of each employee, leading to actual behavioral changes. In this session, practical perspectives on converting human capital into value creation while bridging management and the front lines were shared.
Organizational Change and Leadership Required in the AI Era As the use of AI advances, organizations are required to have more adaptability to change than ever before. In an era where it is necessary to question 'where humans bring value' rather than just focusing on business efficiency, the CHRO was shown to be an entity that updates the organizational culture and learning environment itself.
Career Ownership Enhances Corporate Value 'Career ownership,' where individuals proactively build their careers, directly links not only to the individual's benefit but also to the sustainable growth of the organization. The session delved into the essence of human capital management: how to build a relationship where both the individual and the organization grow together while supporting employees' challenges, crossing boundaries, and relearning.
