Eikei University (President: Mutsuhiro Arinobu, Naka-ku, Hiroshima) held a practical workshop on the "Circular Economy" for the 2026 Spring Quarter course "Environmental Economics" (Instructor: Professor Masaki Ishikawa), inviting Mr. Fumiaki Yamashita (Chief Sustainability Officer) of Shinto Tsushin Co., Ltd. as a guest lecturer. This class aims not only to view environmental issues from an economic perspective but also to conceive solutions tailored to real-world challenges. In the workshop, students developed specific solutions for regional issues using "Hiroshima's tourism and resource circulation challenges" as the subject. With advice from instructors promoting social business at the Nagoya-based "CIRCULAR DESIGN STUDIO," students engaged in discussions from diverse perspectives. They analyzed the current state of tourism and resource circulation in Hiroshima and proposed sustainable regional revitalization measures applying the concept of the circular economy. As a result, through the "interactive and PBL-based learning" emphasized by Eikei University, it was a valuable opportunity to foster creativity and collaboration aimed at social implementation, rather than just acquiring knowledge.
