QunaSys Inc. (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Tenren Yang), which promotes the industrial application of quantum computers, will hold a workshop titled "Design Principles and Application Potential of Digital Twins Revisited: Focusing on Fluid Data" on August 5, 2026 (Tue) from 15:00 to 18:00.

In recent years, interest in "digital twins" – which reproduce actual objects on a computer to understand, predict, and improve their states – has been growing in manufacturing, healthcare, and R&D fields. However, in fields dealing with fluids, many challenges remain for practical implementation, including computational cost, integration with real-world data, and maintaining accuracy.

This event will discuss what is necessary to leverage digital twins in practice, starting with fluid data, from both research and industrial application perspectives. Researchers from the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo, and QunaSys will present, covering topics such as simulation challenges, insights from the medical field, and the future potential of computational technologies.

Background and Objectives of this Workshop

A digital twin is not just about performing simulations; it's a concept that involves updating models by incorporating data from the actual site to aid in prediction and decision-making. Therefore, design principles such as "what states to track," "how to reflect observed data in calculations," and "what level of error is acceptable" become crucial.

Particularly in fields dealing with fluids, the required accuracy and speed vary greatly depending on the application. For example, in the semiconductor field, integration with manufacturing equipment and process design is important; in healthcare, integration with the human body and medical data is key; and in academia, validation of new models and computational methods is essential. On the other hand, in real-world operations, high computational load and limited measurable data often pose implementation hurdles.

This event will discuss how to connect fluid simulations and digital twins, assuming these challenges. We aim to create a forum where participants can consider how to use different models and balance accuracy with practicality to create systems that are truly usable in the field.

Highlights of this Event

- Discussions connecting practical fluid simulations with research

The types of fluid-related challenges differ across semiconductor, healthcare, and R&D fields. This event will explore common design principles while sharing the specific challenges faced in each area.

- Thinking about digital twins in a "usable form for the field"

We will address the concepts necessary for actually incorporating data and using it for decision-making and improvements, rather than just theoretical digital twins. We will discuss what to measure, how to update, and at what level to use it.

- Discussions incorporating perspectives from industry and academia

University researchers and corporate researchers will present, sharing perspectives for actual application that are neither purely theoretical nor just product introductions.

- A networking opportunity for participants

A networking reception is also planned after the event, allowing for more in-depth opinion exchange among speakers and participants.
