Farm Resort THE FARM (Headquarters: Katori City, Chiba; CEO: Yasuaki Takeda; hereinafter referred to as THE FARM) will be holding a 'Firefly Viewing Event' exclusively for overnight guests from late May to June 2026 (estimated). Backed by approximately 10 years of environmental conservation activities, including the restoration of abandoned farmlands and waterways in the satoyama, we propose the light of fireflies that appear only for a short period in early summer as a special 'stay experience'.
Fireflies are delicate creatures that can only survive when clean watersides, vegetation for hiding, and a quiet environment are all present. The surroundings of the Nishitabe area in Katori City, where THE FARM is located, are paddy fields in the valleys of low hills known as 'Yatsuda', which used to retain the original landscape of satoyama where fireflies flew about. However, as depopulation progressed, the area was left unmaintained and fell into ruin. Along with tourism development, THE FARM promoted environmental conservation efforts, gradually restoring the original state of the paddy fields. As one of the results, it led to the return of the scenery where fireflies dance in 2023.
To pass down the increasingly forgotten original landscape of the satoyama to the future, we will continue our environmental conservation activities and aim to create experiences where visiting guests can touch 'authentic nature'.
