Rakuten Securities announced that, to provide a secure service environment for all clients, it will expand the availability of passkey authentication (FIDO2) to all customers, including those without smartphones, effective May 31, 2026.

Rakuten Securities strongly advocates for "passkey authentication," which allows password-less login using biometrics and provides robust phishing resistance. To ensure that the service—already utilized by approximately 70% of clients—is accessible to everyone, Rakuten will enable passkey creation on devices other than smartphones. This allows users who currently lack smartphones or are unable to set up passkeys due to device configurations to securely log in using this technology, thereby reducing the risk of unauthorized access.

Rakuten Securities has implemented various security measures to ensure clients can invest safely. Significant milestones include the September 2021 launch of "Login Additional Authentication" using image emojis, which became mandatory across all channels in June 2025. In October 2025, the company introduced "passkey authentication" (FIDO2) across all channels.

As a "companion for wealth building," Rakuten Securities prioritizes providing a secure environment that maximizes client Financial Well-Being. The company remains committed to offering a high-security environment designed to effectively prevent unauthorized access, such as phishing fraud.
